sistersofstyle have teamed up with Michelle Pino from Skana Spa, to give you some top tips on how achieve dewy, glowing, gorgeous Summer skin, without the damage.

Michelle advises “It’s more important than ever to protect your skin during the hottest season of the year. The same UV rays that give you that golden summer glow are powerful enough to cause premature ageing, leaving you with unwanted dryness, uneven pigmentation and wrinkles. If you want to show up to a Summer BBQ with a soft, radiant look, here are a few tips that will help your skin keep its healthy glow.”

1. Ditch the War Paint

Summer vacation is the perfect time to set aside the makeup kit and give your skin a chance to breathe and revitalize. It’s good to take advantage of time away and let your skin relax a little, too.

sistersofstyle say: We are huge fans of going bare faced. If you struggle with braving au naturale  skin then try using Clarins beauty flash balm, it really does give you brighter, tighter skin.

2. Cover Up

Maxis are all the rage, so take advantage of this fashion trend to cover up. Premature wrinkles and skin cancers are directly linked to sun exposure.  Wear cute, floppy hats that provide cover for your face and always wear sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of UVA and UVB rays.

sistersofstyle say: Any excuse to wear oversized sunnies and a floppy hat. Charlotte never removes her sunglasses in the sun and hasn’t ever experienced panda eyes, yet. We are loving Stella McCartneys cat eye sunglasses and Straw floppy hats.

3. Don’t Scent Your Skin

Many perfumes – especially citrusy scents – can react to the sun and permanently stain your skin. Spritz your clothes, and not your skin, with your favorite fragrance.

sistersofstyle say: Natasha has been a huge advocate of this technique, always spritzing Chanel Chance in her hair, claiming it lasts longer.

4. Thou Shalt Not Tan

Sunbathing causes deep and permanent wrinkles that can make you look years older. Dark skin is just as susceptible to sun-related damage, although light skinned people are at greater risk for melanoma and skin cancer. There are many creams and lotions on the market that promise a sun-kissed glow. Before applying, check their ratings and do your homework.

sistersofstyle recommend: Natasha has spent a fair bit of time on the orange side of self-tanning having used expensive and cheap products, she now advises Camilla, they both highly recommend glow’n’go instantant tan shimmer using a mitt to apply. Charlotte swears by Palmers natural bronze gradual tanning moisturiser. When we are in the sun we never venture below a factor 15 spf.

5. Rinse Off After a Swim

We all love a dip in the pool or the ocean to escape the summer heat. But chlorine and salt water dry out your skin. After a swim, take a minute to rinse off with fresh water.

6. Eat Right

Summer offers a bounty of fresh vegetables and fruit that help you maintain energy. Add natural yogurt, whole grains and healthy fats, like seeds and nuts,  to your diet. They add moisture to your skin. Avoid trans and hydrogenated fats, as well as overly processed foods.

sistersofstyle recommend: Smoothies, frozen watermelon slices and yummy salads… we love the plentiful bounty of Summer produce.

7. Hydrate

We can’t say it enough: You need water year round, but especially during the heat of the summer. Dehydrated skin looks worn and unhealthy. Drinking plenty of water hydrates your skin and – bonus – helps you flush out toxins.

sistersofstyle love: Drinking Fiji, Highland Spring, San Pellegrino… We consume between 2-3 litres a day.

While enjoying the longer days and leisurely nights of summer, don’t get careless with your skin. Following these tips from the Skana Spa experts of New York Resort, Turning Stone Resort, will help you avoid premature aging and will keep you looking your very best year round.

Thank you Michelle and Skana Spa for your top Summer skincare advice.
